Big Idea: Real love for God is revealed in obedience and sustained by the presence of the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit enables us to keep His commandments. V. 15

“Yet since we see that not all indiscriminately embrace that communion with Christ which is offered through the gospel, reason itself teaches us to climb higher and to examine into the secret energy of the Spirit, by which we come to enjoy Christ and all his benefits… the Holy Spirit is the bond by which Christ effectually unites us to himself.” John Calvin
“If we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit” Galatians 5:25
“In him you also when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.” Ephesians 1:13-14
