Throughout the Scriptures, we see God’s heart for the vulnerable, which specifically includes those who are alone (widows), the fatherless (orphans and children), the impoverished, and the foreigners Therefore, in obedience to the Scriptures, part of our Gospel-mission is to love and serve these populations.*
For years, Westover Church has been deeply committed to serving refugee and immigrant populations in our local community, helping resettle these new neighbors into a new home by furnishing apartments, as well as coming alongside our neighbors to help them adjust to life in a new place. Through partnerships with local organizations such as Church World Services, World Relief and FaithAction House International, Westover is committed to the transition of seeing strangers become neighbors.
Early in 2022, we focused our Refugee Resettlement efforts on the renovation of a property across the street from our church-campus, called The Hope House, where Westover will be hosting refugee families/individuals with short-term housing while they work with local partners to become financially stable.
Current Opportunities with our Refugee Resettlement Ministry:
The Hope House: We need volunteers to work with our current guests in a variety of ways.
- Provide/Serve a Meal
- Spend intentional time with our guests, learning more about them while giving them the opportunity to practice their English
- Provide transportation (when needed) for guests
- Contribute houseware/furnishings (when needed)
Furnishing Living-Spaces
- Contact Church World Services to get your family/group involved in setting-up and furnishing a new living space for an incoming refugee family.
