Poverty Outreach

Poverty Outreach

Westover launched its three-year poverty focus in early 2009. It is our desire that our body would begin to serve those who find themselves in poverty. Areas of poverty that will be addressed are the chronically homeless individuals, impoverished children, and the working poor. It is our desire that we address spiritual poverty in the midst of meeting the needs associated with physical poverty. However, we also recognize that the poor can teach us about our walk with the Lord. (Mark 12:41-44)

Opportunities include:

  • The HOPE (Healing Opportunities Everywhere) Team – Homeless outreach to homeless veterans. Meets the 2nd Thursday of every month at 7pm in W201.
  • The Servant Center – helping to meet the needs of homeless veterans in our area with transitional housing, permanent housing, food pantry and grocery assistance program, and a disability assistance program.
  • Home-To-Home Ministry - collecting and distributing furniture and household goods.
  • Wednesday Night Meals at Grace - Westover serves meals to the chronically homeless at Grace Community Church on the 2nd Wednesday of every month.
  • Car Care Clinic for Single Moms & Widows – Quarterly oil changes and car repair of donated cars that are donated back out to those in need.
  • Local Gleaning - Gleaning is a traditional Biblical concept that puts volunteers into the fields to pick the crops that remain after harvest. Local gleanings take place at nearby farms to deliver to feeding ministries or communities in need. Gleanings are fun and a great hands-on opportunity for families!
  • Stay tuned for future opportunities!
